It’s been quite a while since I finished the inagural story for ROADFROGS. At the time, I thought I’d be putting a few of the PAWNS strips I’ve finished on here shortly after completing “Froggie Went A-Courtin'”. Life, as they say, is what happens while you’re making other plans. Much of last year, I was struggling with a series of nagging illnesses. By the time I posted the final episode of ROADFROGS, I was beat. The couple of weeks I thought I was taking off from drawing and writing my comics turned into more like ten months! Also, my mother’s cancer was making her increasingly weaker, finally ending her earthly life last October. Somehow, my little stories and drawings seemed much less significant in the scheme of things.

So, I took some time off. But now I am back. But I’ve decided to redraw the PAWNS strips I had finished AND draw a few more before I start posting them here. Plus, I will be posting the redrawn G.I.JEFF: A REALLY AVERAGE HERO! story, “Dead Men Don’t Eat Quiche” (which I finished pencilling today) and its sequel, “Real Men Don’t Wear Plaid” (which I haven’t even scripted yet) before I get things rolling here.

But never fear! The first episodes of PAWNS should start showing up on your computer sometime this fall, once “Dead Men …” and “Real Men …” finish their runs.

In the mean time, I will try to post some character sketches and such here while we wait for the strips to start. I’m planning to publish PAWNS weekly, but it will look and feel more like a daily comic than either ROADFROGS or G.I.JEFF. There will be some episodes that tie in to one another, but each strip will (hopefully) work independently. After nearly twenty years of working in a pawn shop, very little of this strip will need to be fiction – but it will be fictionalized. I hope that you will find the stories that end up here to be as funny as I think they are. In real life, most of these situations were pretty ridiculous at the time.
